Linda Fay Tait
1950 – 10 January 2012 RIP
A player in the Glebe women’s ranks for 21 seasons, Linda Tait, has died after a relatively short illness. She was diagnosed with a melanoma in August 2011. She is survived by her mother and her son Sam who was a constant supporter on the sideline from the time of his birth. The Glebe District Hockey Club extends its condolences to them both as well as her partner Rod and her extended family and many friends.
The full obituary can be found on the Women's Page.
Glebe Junior Indoor Hockey teams played in 3 Finals last weekend, winning all 3. More information can be found under the Junior Indoor tab.
This is the 3rd consecutive year that a Glebe Team has won the U9 and U11A division.
Mark "Hollywood" Paterson will be heading to Auckland with the Kookaburras to defend their Champions Trophy Crown from 3-11 December 2011. Eight of the world’s top men’s teams will be in Auckland, New Zealand to play in this year’s premier annual men’s hockey event. It is the last major event on the men’s calendar before the 2012 London Olympics and is a great opportunity for Mark to stake his claims for an Olympic spot in the Kookaburras side.

Why Glebe? Glebe District Hockey Club is one the greatest, most successful hockey clubs in Sydney and arguably one of the most famous hockey clubs in the world! Players have joined Glebe Hockey from all over Sydney and from overseas, making the club a social and competitive club with a loyal following. By joining Glebe you will join a club with a rich history and a fantastic social scene. In what competitions do Glebe teams compete? MEN: In 2011, Glebe men will likely field 8 teams (depending on whether the proposed Sydney Hockey League starts), Premier League 1 & 2, Division 1.1, 1.2, 3.1, 3.2, 4.2 and Veteran’s.
The current SHA competition is the strongest competition in NSW and rivals the local competitions in Perth and Melbourne as the strongest competition in Australia.
Most recently, Glebe has won the Premier League 1 competition in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Glebe boasts one current Australia representative, Mark ‘Hollywood’ Paterson and one NSW representative, Matthew Wark. The current 1st Grade coach, Dean Benfield, is also an ex-NSW representative and is currently part of the coaching staff for the NSW team.
Glebe caters for all levels of players – from the elite, to the social, to beginners.
WOMEN: In 2011, Glebe women’s will field four teams, three in the Sydney Women’s Hockey League and one in the Eastern Districts Competition. The Sydney Women’s Hockey League (SWHL) is the best competition in Sydney and a perfect playing ground for competitive players. Glebe has a first, second and third grade team, which compete in the ML2, 4 and 5 divisions. The Eastern Districts competion sees Glebe’s fourth grade compete. This team is ideal for players who wish to learn new skills whilst also having fun with their friends. This team is also perfect for junior or younger players wishing to enter the Women's Competition and move through the grades as skills progress.
JUNIORS: The Glebe junior club is the next biggest junior club in Sydney after Sutherland, which is particularly impressive when it is considered that there are a number of rival clubs in Sydney’s inner west competing for the same talent pool of kids. A big incentive which families have found in coming to Glebe is that it is free for all kids up to U/17s level to play hockey for Glebe, as well as the welcoming family environment Glebe prides itself on. The associated costs with funding the juniors is generally subsidised by fundraising, sponsorship and by the men’s and women’s clubs.

Glebe juniors train at Jubilee Oval on Wednesday nights from 5.30pm and occasionally at Cintra on Tuesday nights at 5.30 or 6.30pm depending on what team you are in. When do Glebe play their competition games? All Glebe Hockey Men’s games are played on artificial turf and usually played usually on a Saturday at various grounds around greater Sydney. All Glebe Hockey Women’s games are played on artificial turf and usually played on a Sunday at Homebush. Glebe junior games are almost exclusively played on artificial turf on Saturday mornings at various venues. When does the season begin? The hockey season usually begins in early April, but depending on your team, pre-season training commences earlier in the year, likely late January 2011. For example, trials for team allocation are held in February. Training also commences in February/March. How does Glebe differ from other clubs in Sydney? There are so many amazing aspects about joining the Glebe club. We are a very social and dedicated club, who are committed to the community and our Club. The Glebe District Hockey Club does not charge its juniors to play hockey. We are committed to building the sport throughout the community and investing in younger players who want to wear the maroon and white.
